For 30 years, Fundaziun Nairs has offered an interdisciplinary, international residency programme near Scuol in the Lower Engadine, Canton of Grisons. Housed in a historic bathhouse on the banks of the River Inn and surrounded by mountains, the residency brings together nine cultural practitioners and thinkers from diverse disciplines to live and work under one roof. Residencies at this former health resort – where purification and healing were once central – last between two and ten months and take place from February to November. Cooking together in the evenings is as much a part of the Fundaziun Nairs DNA as the interdisciplinary collaborations and lasting friendships formed here.
In an era of increasing acceleration, fragmentation, and societal uncertainty, this location offers a rare space of possibility: a place for contemplation, concentration, and in-depth engagement with the artistic, intellectual, and societal questions of our time. Substantial artistic and intellectual processes require time – a resource that cultural practitioners here consciously grant themselves.
