KAWLA is a collaborative music project by Siavash Namehshiri and Peyman Salehyan, bringing Kurdish and Iranian musical practices into dialogue with experimental electronic composition, contemporary composition and improvisation. Rather than combining acoustic tradition and electronics as separate musical layers, the project investigates how inherited musical structures can be analysed, transformed and resynthesised through contemporary compositional and technological processes.
Siavash Namehshiri is a Kurdish musician, sound artist, collaborator, curator, and community organiser from Iran/Rojhalat, based in Zurich. His work focuses primarily on the processing of processes – an exploration of artistic creation as an evolving dialogue.
Peyman Salehyan is a Kurdish musician, composer, and cultural educator currently based in Berlin, Germany. With more than fifteen years of artistic and pedagogical experience, his work bridges Mesopotamian musical traditions, Kurdish heritage, and contemporary composition.
