TEXT IN ENGLISH

Before message salon embassy‘s current artist in residence, Daniela Palimariu, leaves us to make her mark elsewhere we would like to celebrate her stay at Zurich Nord in style, with the release of message salon embassy Zine no. 11.

In her publication BRAIN FOG: For or against, Romanian artist Daniela Palimariu sheds light on vague, intuitive conditions, on as-yet-unrealised thoughts and brain waveswhirring around somewhere between mind and action, occasionally falling on paper and ending up in a sketch book. Among a resident’s activities is spending time in the temporary studio researching the inception of the artistic process: examining how thoughts form, how they assimilate each other, disappear or congeal, edge each other out, disrupt or enliven one another. This sharpens contours and orders chaos.
Moments spent in a studio in a foreign city, poking around in the fog of one’s thoughts, constitute the beginning of a process whose continuation and end are similarly as yet unknown.

BRAIN FOG: For or against is an attempt at a selection and curation of sketched thoughts in the form of texts, drawings and photographs, which developed during Daniela Palimariu’s stay at message salon embassy Zurich Nord in the spring of 2018.

Madame l’Ambassadeur looks forward to the party celebrating Daniela Palimariu from Bucharest, the third artist in residence at message salon embassy’s Zurich Nord on the Hunzikerareal.
There are enough zines, snacks and drinks for everyone!

DINA KHUSEYN | OPEN STUDIO – «DANCING TO SURVIVE»

12. 04. 2018 – 17H00
13. 04. 2018 – 18H00
@ Maison des Arts du Grütli, Grand Studio, 2e étage, Geneva

– What do you do to survive?
– I am dancing. To survive… It may seem odd, but it’s true.

At the end of her residency at the Embassy of Foreign Artists, Dina Khuseyn will open the doors of her studio to share different materials accumulated through her working, travelling, thinking, talking and meeting people in Switzerland.

«Dancing to survive» – is a day to day dancediary, a poem, soul to soul song, economic mantra, self and world reflective collage, autobiographical score and the beginning of the new work. Through «dancing like», talking and other forms of communication Dina will touch some topics of her personal/professional life and will propose a réflexion around some questions of our everyday social realities.

* Open work, it’s a work in a state of constant transformation and at the same time a container for many other potential projects and ideas.

@ Embassy of Foreign Artists: January to April 2018
In collaboration with Pro Helvetia Moscow

Dina Khuseyn – is a choreographer, performer and curator of the SOTA project and Performative Practice Place in Moscow. She was born and grew up in Moscow where she received her first dance education and diploma as a ballet dancer. She finished Rotterdam Dance Academy in the Netherlands and received the DanceWeb scholarship in 2001. Her works were presented in diverse festivals in France, Russia, Hungary, Latvia and Spain. In 2009 she completed the ex.e.r.ce program, under direction of Mathilde Monnier, at the Contemporary Dance Center in Montpellier, France.

Being connected to many different cultural identities – russian, belorussian, irakian, french – her dancing identity is the only stable island in the constantly changing cultural paysages. The development of her own artistic pass brought her to the point where her artistic practice is very much linked and related to her curatorial practice and the question of “alternative spaces” is very present in her works. Alternative spaces in art, in the way we produce and receive art, alternative spaces in us, in our social life… what are those kind of spaces, where we could find them? and how we can create them?
